"I will bring them to my Holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer!"
Because everything changes so quickly during this time of the current health crisis, we are sorry to announce that due to new guidelines from the Governor of Texas and the CDC, Aldersgate UMC will not be holding a worship service on Sunday or for the immediate future until further notice.
Instead, we will prerecord a worship service for each Sunday for you to watch in the comfort of your own home available on our "Recordings" page. You can also watch it later during the week, if you like. Our Sunday 5-31-20 service is available to watch RIGHT NOW.
Thanks for joining us, and God bless us all!

Beloved in Christ,
As the Governor’s initial COVID-19 Executive Orders minimizing gatherings and face-to-face contact have expired, new guidelines were released by both the Governor and Bishop Scott Jones regarding the reopening of churches in the midst of our current pandemic. Both documents contain similar protocols to minimize the risk of virus transmission, and it is clear that when we do begin meeting in person again that, in the words of our bishop, “a return to pre-March 15 practices could very well cause a new surge that would be worse than the first.”
We are all anxious to worship together again, receive the sacraments, encourage one another, pray together, and enjoy all the aspects of Christian fellowship (koinonia) that we have missed for almost two months. At the same time, however, we must recognize that majority of our congregation is in the “at-risk population” due to age and/or existing medical conditions. Most directly, our bishop’s guidance requests, “If your church worships more than 50 persons, please continue to suspend in-person worship through the end of May. We may need to delay that re-start date for even later.”
Until at least the end of May, all our worship services will be online only—posted both on our church website and Facebook. During this time, our Trustees and the appropriate committees will work to safety implement the guidance from the CDC, our Governor, and our Bishop in order to begin worshiping together as quickly as is practical and safe once conditions permit. We are developing our own local plans to practice best hygiene practices, sanitize our worship areas, consider how to administer the sacraments, etc. We intend to continue posting our services online even after we are able to gather in person, knowing that some will want to refrain from gathering together to protect their own health or the health of their families.
We will continue to communicate frequently via several different avenues to ensure you have up-to-date community/parish information, resources/ideas for support, and consistent contact during this time of isolation. We appreciate and are thankful for Bartina’s and Tom’s efforts to keep everyone posted via email and Facebook throughout this most unusual time.
As said before, if you need help during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to get the assistance you need. We hold your health and the health of our neighbors in high regard and are working to maintain it. We do not fear the world, its diseases, or its trials but look to the One who has promised that all things will work to the good of those who love Him. We depend on Christ, both to save us and to help us serve those around us. Let us remind ourselves of the words of our Savior. “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16.33, NKJV).
In Christ, who is our hope,
Your Aldersgate Family
