"I will bring them to my Holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer!"
Our United Methodist Church Community Welcomes You
Because everything changes so quickly during this time of the current health crisis, we are sorry to announce that due to new guidelines from the Governor of Texas and the CDC, Aldersgate UMC will NOT be holding a worship service on Sunday or for the immediate future until further notice.
Instead, we will prerecord a worship service for each Sunday for you to watch in the comfort of your own home available on our "Recordings" page. You can also watch it later during the week, if you like. Our Sunday 3-29-20 service is now available to watch.
Thanks for joining us, and God bless us all!
March 19, 2020
Beloved in Christ,
As quickly as we made plans to safely worship amidst the outbreak of Covid-19, our plans have changed. By order of the Governor, gatherings of more than ten people are prohibited state-wide beginning March 20th, effectively forcing us to cancel any church-wide times of corporate worship. While we regret having to cancel our worship gatherings, at times like this, the best way we can love our neighbors is by keeping our physical distance and doing all we can to slow the spread of this virus in order to keep our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
For the foreseeable future, all our worship services will be online only—posted both on our church website and Facebook. We will continue to monitor our global and local situations and return to face-to-face gatherings as soon as it is safe. We want to be prudent about all things in the weeks and months to come
We WILL be communicating frequently and via several different avenues, including email, Facebook, and our Buddy Network to ensure you have up-to-date community/parish information, resources/ideas for support, and consistent contact during this time of isolation. Our goal is to ensure everyone is cared for, though specific details are still in work.
Remember to take care of one another and our neighbors in need. When his village was threatened by the Black Plague, the Reformer Martin Luther wrote to those near him, encouraging them to be steadfast in their faith and persevere in practical love for their neighbors. These words have inspired Christians of all denominations for almost 500 years in time of epidemics and trials. “I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me…If my neighbor needs me, however, I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash, nor foolhardy, and does not tempt God.”
As said before, if you need help during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to get the assistance you need. We hold your health and the health of our neighbors in high regard and are working to maintain it. We do not fear the world, its diseases, or its trials but look to the One who has promised that all things will work to the good of those who love Him. We depend on Christ, both to save us and to help us serve those around us. Let us remind ourselves of the words of our Savior. “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16.33, NKJV).
In Christ, who is our hope,
Your Aldersgate Family
