Here are some ways you can serve in Missions at Aldersgate:
The Blessing Box is a community exchange for food and grocery items people need that is open to all. You are welcome to place items in the box or drop them in the church foyer for the Mission Team to distribute. Please only donate items that are in-date and sealed. Suggested items: Peanut Butter (1 lb-2 oz or larger), Tuna Fish (5 oz or 12 oz), Canned Green Beans or Corn (14-16 oz), and Ramen noodles. If the box needs attention, please let the church office know.
We host Backpack Buddy as they pack weekend food bags for students in SFISD each week. Join the crew at 10am in Susanna Hall to bag food and transport it to the elementary, junior high, and high schools.
We support the United Methodist missions organization UMCOR in their responses to natural disasters around the world. Visit their website here to see all the ways they are helping people who need it most.
H.I.S. is always looking for volunteers at their resale shop, food pantry, and other ministry areas. Sign up on their website or call for more information.
Backpack Buddy Program is a non-profit providing ready-to-eat items to Santa Fe ISD students with limited or no access to food on weekends. The Backpack Buddy program currently serves over 300 Elementary, Junior High, and High School students each week. Backpack Buddy packs food bags every Wednesday at 10am in Susanna Hall.
H.I.S. Ministries is a growing non-profit in Santa Fe that supports people in Santa Fe and Hitchcock. H.I.S. offers a food pantry, resale shop, and seasonal help to families in need. We have a longstanding relationship with H.I.S. Ministries in Santa Fe. Our UMW volunteer at their resale shop regularly. We also host their Christmas Toy Shop each year. H.I.S. Ministries has locations at 4205 Jackson St and 13136 Hwy 6 and accepts donations of all kinds. Learn more about their ministries here.
The Thelma Webber Community Center provides meals and activities on weekdays for senior citizens. Aldersgate is growing our connection with the community by offering Crafting classes at the Community Center. Contact the church office for more information and to volunteer.
Several times per year, we open our doors to Kairos Prison Ministry so that they have a "home base" for this area. Kairos is a lay-led, interdenominational Christian ministry in which volunteers bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to prisoners and their families. The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief is the main organizing body for disaster relief for the Untied Methodist Church. We support and work with UMCOR regularly with our Lenten Mission Projects and donations to natural disaster relief.
