Youth Director

Job Summary

Lead Aldersgate’s Youth Program (7th grade-12th grade). Model, teach, and motivate the next generation of Christians to grow closer to Christ. 

Roles & Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide mentoring, care, and support to individual youth and their families.
  • Plan, organize and lead weekly activities that create fellowship among the youth (currently Sunday evenings).
  • Plan and lead weekly Bible Study (currently Wednesday evenings).
  • Provide opportunities for the youth to engage in missions, spiritual growth, and service (current summer activities Lakeview Camp, UMARMY, and VBS).
  • Receive and act on parents’ ideas and concerns.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Volunteer Youth Coordinator, Pastor, other staff, and volunteers. 
  • Accountable to the Youth Ministry Team 
  • At all times, ensure church’s Safe Sanctuary policy is strictly enforced.  

Shared Responsibilities (with Volunteer Youth Coordinator):

  • Maintain open and timely communications on programs, events, schedules, and opportunities with youth, parents, and church. 
  • Keep up-to-date listing of contact information for youth and families, including potential members
  • Coordinate youth fundraisers (for summer trips).  
  • Along with Youth Ministry Team Chairperson, call and facilitate Youth Ministry Team meetings (approx. once per month). 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate a strong personal faith in Christ.
  • Experience in teaching the Bible, basic Christian beliefs, and familiarity with United Methodist doctrine.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring youth Christ-centered programs and activities. - Above average interpersonal skills with youth, parents, and adults.
  • Good ability to track and manage details.
  • Good verbal & written communications skills.
  • Maintain proof of Safe Sanctuary certification, clean background check, drug screening, driver license, a clean driving record, and auto insurance.

Salary & Benefits

  • Estimated Time Requirement: 8-12 hours per week, plus additional time during summer activities/camps. 
  • Annual salary: $12,000-$15,000 dependent on experience.
  • Paid bi-monthly via direct deposit (W-2 employee)
  • Flexible vacation time off, as approved by Supervisor.
  • Paid professional development.

Pianist

Job Summary

Be a valued member of our Worship Music Team by providing piano music during Sunday worship and occasional special services. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide piano music during Sunday worship including hymns, contemporary praise music, specials, solo and choir accompaniment, incidental music. 
  • Attend the following. Total weekly time commitment ~4 hours per week. Times listed are subject to change. Arrive on-time, prepared, and appropriately dressed. 
    • One weekly rehearsal, Wednesday evenings from 7:30p to 9:30 (1-hour choir and 1-hour praise band). 
    • Sunday morning “run-thru” from 8:30 to 9:30.
    • Sunday worship from 10a to 11.
    • Other occasional services: Wednesday night services during Advent & Lent, Christmas & Easter Choir Cantata, Funerals & Weddings (honorarium usually provided).
  • Backup for Music Director during scheduled or emergency absences. 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in playing in a worship setting. 
  • Ability to sight-read most hymns and contemporary music.
  • Strong team player & good interpersonal skills.
  • Openness to taking direction from Music Director.

Salary & Benefits

  • Annual salary: $5,000-$8,000 dependent on proficiency and experience.
  • Paid bi-monthly via direct deposit (W-2 employee).
  • Flexible time off, as approved by Pastor (not to exceed 4 days per year).
